I suspect it depends on the underlying database. It might blow at 1025 posts but probably won't.

Anyways. Hi guys.

Too much nothing here, this is incredible!!!
I highly doubt it’ll crash though, I mean this thread might be long, but heck, I’ve seen other Forums were this thread would be considered “normal”

Hi Chewie + Gunner.
From the way it looks now, my puter needs 40 hrs to complete one WU. It's terrible! And you have another computer to run SETI on. This way I'm never gonna catch up.

I knew I was going to say this.

I'm fine. Better than tomorrow probably. Tonight is the Champions League final between Valencia and Real Madrid. I'll watch it with some friends. Beer + too little sleep = headache.
But how are you?

I am doing pretty good ,thank you. this weekend is a three day holiday and we were going to try and go camping. so tht's something to look forward to.

What are you runing SETI on? Isn't it a P350. It should do a unit in 12-14 hours I would think. How much ram do you have? The FSB is also very important.

I have a P200 MMX with 80 MB Ram. I'm planning to buy a new one, or perhaps a whole new motherboard. But what's FSB?

Front Side Bus. Its the speed your memory runs at and the base speed for your processor PCI and AGP devices.

40 Hours is waaaaaaaaayyy to long for a p200. The p233 that I'm on at the mo can crunch a standard unit in 17.5 hours using the command line client and in 21.5 hours using the graphical client.

I'm assuming your using the graphical client (i.e the screensaver) The first thing to do is set it to run all the time (and just kill it when you're gaming). Second set the screensaver prefs to "blank screen" and the "blank after ? minutes" to as low as you are happy with (best is 0). Gunner's times went from something like 25 hours to 8 when he did this.

I wonder what I set my sig to.

Front Side Bus. The FSB and the multiplier are what determines your CPU speed. Yours should be a multilpier of 2 and a FSB of 100. Or 2x100 for a pentium 200.

My 550 mas a multi of 5.5 and a FSB of 100.

all Celerons have a FSB of 66. (I think) The wifes 466 celeron has a multi of 7 and FSB of 66 and when I upped the FSB to 75 for a CPU speed of 525 her SETI times went from 13 hours down to 12.

chewie has a celeron 300 that he has Overclocked to 450 and with his FSB at 100 now he can do a unit in 8-9 hours, or somewhere close to that where as my 550 does on in 7-7 1/2. so his is close to mine.

do you have your SETI on "run all the time"?

the PC I just bought was a P133. I got it from the boeing surplus store(there were over a 100 units) for $50 with my employee discount. It's a dell unit with 1 gig HD and 32MG ram and an Ethernet card. they had P166s for $90. I hope to be able to get a unit or 2 a day out of it. I might buy a 233 or higher overdrive for it.

Gundog. How's it hangin' big guy?

You can overclock that 133 too. Don't ask me how though . I do know that you can change the multiplier as well as the FSB and it'll run SETI faster at a lower speed with a higher FSB.

I put in a little note at the Anandtech OCing forum looking for some help so hopefully I canget it running soon. I told the wife that since they were so cheap I should go by a few more , she didn't like the idea of spending money just so I could try to keep up with you and Ike.

They sell 400mhz overdrive units for old Pentiums.

Currently the screensaver goes blank after 10 minutes. When I get home I'll make it 0. I don't know if running SETI all the time is possible, cos I'm not the only one who uses the computer (i.e. my dad has to agree with it )
How many computers do you have by now, Gunner?

this little jewel make 3. I have my 550 just for my games. The wife works from home (every other day) so she uses her 466, now 525 , celeron and our little p133 now, just for SETI. GL, if you have 80mg of Ram that should be enough to have SETI run all the time and you won't notice a slow down while using the PC.
If you run it just as a screen saver it will take a loooonnnggg time to do a unit.

I've no idea what you can o/c it to, but it might be better underclocked. Hold on a minute, don't panic I haven't been at the herbal cigerettes. Pentiums haven't got locked multipliers. So a 133 is 66*2 but it might run at 50*3 but that would run SETI slower even though its a 150. I don't don't know what bus speeds you'll have available but a higher bus and lower multiplier might work better even if the processor speed goes down a bit.

I'm not sure about those overdrive widgets. They're mostly based on AMD K6-2s and as we know they suck at seti. They're also really expensive (for what you get). I've just checked and for the same money you could get a mobo+celly 500+32MB ram. Which would cost about 5 times the price of the machine you bought. You'd probably get more SETI lovin' from 5 more machines. Now if you could find somewhere selling second hand p200 (not mmx) chips that might be different
