Bah. Houston's post season swoon has just been delayed a series.

It looks like my Redskins are in for another lousy year Unless they can pull out of this first-half-only funk they seem to be in, we're going downhill again.

It's the Astros' year, Sax. No need to put them down with their past failures...they aren't as bad as the Braves' failures of recent memory.
It will be a great series.
Sheldon
Edit: The loss of Caminiti has hit Bagwell, Biggio, Ausmus and the other players in Houston, but they know Cami is watching from high above, enjoying this awesome run.
[ 12 October 2004: Message edited by: Sheldon ]

Saxman hi-fives Invader.
C'mon, Shel. The Cards have the better team. They have a solid four-man rotation, compared to Houston who pretty much have Clemens and Oswalt. Their bullpen is deeper and stronger, anchored by Isringhausen who tied for the league lead in saves (47 on a team that didn't give him many opportunities by blowing everyone out). They have the most dangerous offense 1-7 of any team in baseball. Adding Mike Matheney's post-season numbers and the fact that our pitchers can HIT gives no letup from top to bottom. And you can't argue with 22 gold gloves combined, with virtual locks for the award this year for Rolen and Edmonds, and strong bets for Rentaria, Matheney and Pujols.
And anyone who thought the Cards wouldn't respond when they were playing games that mattered again sure as hell got shut up by their manhandling of LA.

I never said the Cards were a bad team. Far from it. The Cards have a very solid team this year, and it shows with their record. The Astros have been plagued by injuries, but they battled through it, and here they are.
Astros have a been a thorn in the side of the Cards all season. We will see how the series goes starting later today.
No matter who wins...I am just happy that we finally got out of the Post season rut. Our guys have never shown up for the playoffs, but this year they appeared beyond what anyone expected. Don't think this to be a pushover for St. Louis, Saxman...or your team will lose bigtime.
Sheldon

Oh, don't give me the season series line. The Cards were leading it until the last six they played in September, when they subconciously toned down the intensity after clinching.
And I'm not saying it's going to be a turkey shoot, just that the Cards have the upper hand in all facets of the game. Especially after the Game 1 win tonight.

I was at Game One, and watching Game 2 at home. Houston's got big problems even playing at home now. They've only got one shot with Clemens and Oswalt under normal rest, and I don't think they're likely to throw Clemens on short rest again. Even if they do take those two games it only guarantees the deciding one will be played at Busch.
And even then going on the road isn't much of a disadvantage for the Redbirds, either, as half their wins this year came away from Busch Stadium, and Suppan has been PHENOMENAL on the raod this year.

hey im just hoping we will get to the big game, if we played like we have been and with pujols (SP?) and our lineup im sure we can do good, if we can keep their big hitters from knocking them over the wall then this series is ours

You guys have only yourselves to blame for that. Maybe if you'd actually been out to SUPPORT the team they wouldn't have had to move them.

Well, you'd be the only one.
What pissed me off about the whole thing is that they didn't fill the stadium until the last home game, and that the crowd BOOED the National Anthem. I'm like, "What the hell, probably 30,000 of those people didn't even realize they HAD a team until it was in the news they were moving them."

Oooooh, Houston won ONE game after being down two. That SO means they're going to win.
The Astros shot their one bullet in the chamber. St. Louis has beaten Oswalt decisively in the past and Game 5 the Cards will be back to feasting on your bullpen.

Yes, it does mean they are going to win. Cause everyone knows the Cards completely suck!!!

Yeah, that's what you sound like, Sax. As much as you put the Astros down, I do not put the Cards down. They are an excellent team, with great hitters, pitchers, and no errors committed so far in this series. They are obviously the team to beat.
However, you think that this is the first time the Astros have been backed up against the wall? Remember, the Astros were basically written off in August...they were behind SIX teams in the wildcard chase, and overcame with gutsy performances.
Still consider them a crappy team?
If you want to talk about a blowout, watch the Yanks vs BoSox....now THAT is a no brainer...especially after last night's laugher.

Sheldon

Hmmm
That has got to be one of the best games I've ever seen.
Backe & Williams.
Who would have thought they'd go that far without a run scored?
In the end...the Astros now lead the series...
See you in St. Louis, Saxman.

Sheldon
ps. I knew this series would be a great one, but once again the NL takes second fiddle to the AL...

Oh yeah, one more thing.

No matter who wins and goes to the WS, I for one, will be rooting for the NL team, wether St. Louis or Houston.
Sheldon
