I'll start with an example and maybe you can explain the discrepancies.

Star Galleon (STARG)
  • Tech Library: 298 meters long
  • using the model dimensions function on the OPTech Viewer i get:
  • 297.70 meters long, 133.10 meters wide, 91.24 meters high
  • I convert the OPT to 3DS and measure it in Sketchup 2017 and I get
  • 310.22 meters long, 138.70 meters wide, 97.06 meters high.
Now I have a headache. How big are these model really? Please please help. :kopfwand:

Hello,
The size reported by the game, OPTech or XwaOptEditor is good.
I think the scale factor used by the OPT to 3DS converter is wrong.

For information, the scale factor used by the game to convert from in-opt unit to meter is 0.0244140625.

Same goes for the raw model when created in modelling programs such as Rhino3D. The scale there is totally off the charts.

From what you posted I‘d suggest thr game engine displays rounded numbers whereas OPTech etc. go with precise values.

OK that helps, thank you.

So the rounded to the nearest meter makes sense.

What I don't understand why the Tech library doesn't show lengths for fighters.

Guess it was a design choice. That‘s a question you‘d have to ask Totally Games, if that company would still exist.

Well, few fighters are longer than 20 metres, anything bigger is usually classed as a "transport". The real reason the tech Library is supposed to give you lengths is so that you have a conception of how big a Frigate or CRS or ISD is.

Also, off the top of my head there's more info on the fighter's card - so it's probably just space.

Interesting, I've found another topic about rounded stats: https://xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 97&start=9
Well, that's not exactly about length, but shields and hull, and weaponry tests on containers.
They were trying to determine if the game engine uses floating-point math with an explicit round like the editors or integer math like the tech library.
