Yeah, its an oxymoron, but its true. I was in training mission 2, and the final battle vs the Marut, and as me and my wingmen fly towards them, one X-wing promptly explodes and another seconds later. Suddenly i see all these heavy rockets streaking past me, so I turn and shoot at them, trying to help my cruiser. Turns out that the tie fighters, (not the bombers) had fired off about 60 rockets at my squadron, i know because i targeted a tie and watched in disbelief as it fired 4 sets of dual rockets in about a second and a half. odd. it might be a bug, but it was kind of funny. for a few seconds, before i was hit and destroyed. Turns out i had 4 rockets incoming on various directions. it is the first, and only time hopefully, that i was killed singlehandedly by tie fighters in that mission.

I decided to resurrect this thread - the exact same thing (almost) just happened to me! I was flying towards the TIEs, when I noticed about 50 missiles of some kind (didn't actually check what they were) come streaking towards me - luckily for me, the TIEs seemed to be dumb-firing them as none of them hit anything (as far as I could tell).

Mission bug. Never happened to me oddly enough.

Just checking through the .tie in AlliED and T/F Eta flight do have Heavy Rockets in their missile field. However this does not explain their use, or the numbers of Rockets fired, since that wouldn't fit in with how a usual TIE is stocked or behaves in the game and there are no clear differences in the "Status" fields either, they all appear "normal". /edit - so yes, it's most likely a glitch...
[ 12 January 2003: Message edited by: dugg ]

I think that happened to me too back some years ago. Somehow the TIEs seem to fire rockets instead of blaster bolts.
I think it has something to do with one of the older updates (Think I also saw Cap Ships fire droids sometime)

before i figured out how to use warheads right with my custom opts, i did experiments in mxvted. i wound up in a lot of cases having unlimited warheads, and instead of firing lasers, my opts fired the warheads. in other words, they fired rockets in bursts of five or six shots, recharged, adn fired them again, recharged for a few, fired again, etc.
my point is that if you accidentally mess something up in mxvted, it can do that. now i am sure this particular case is just a glitch, as it does say they have rockets in Allied, but im just sayin.
btw if anyone does want to know that glitch with warheads as lasers, email me. ill be sure to give it to ya.

I made a super tie that did that once.... It shot like 12 lasers and millions of warheads.

Actually it's to do with the new Ties not being set with launchers. This leeds to Wassup's problem.
