you can fight the battle of midway with American A-wings vs Japaniese Tie Interceptors, while troops storm the beaches under heavy assault and a storm of blaster fire...

Nice.
OT: All games based on WW2 are games based on human tragedies and should thus be based on something else. ESPECIALLY if you get to play the Axis.. :(
I'd like to see any of you playing a War on Terror game where you are the Al-Queda in Afghanistan, hiding in caves, and your objective is to shoot, anthrax-infest, threaten, bomb, and poison -in short: Kill -as many Americans as possible. "What? Commerciallizing 9/11?" Well, it's what the USA is doing to WW2. Sad truth is, games based on WW2 sell better both in Europe and the US than games of identical quality based on fictional wars.. it's a sick world, I'm telling you ;).)

i see your point Cloud, but to play devil's advocate for a moment, no one is forcing you or anyone else to buy or play those games so why do you care, and also i've played many WWII games and have never felt like i was dishonering that generations suffering for even a moment, and judging from sales of these products noone else does either. Commercialism is the way the world works, wake up and smell the christmas cards. (this sort of debate has been going on for years with other entertainment items like Ice T's Cop Killer or any of Eminem's stuff and both sides of the argument have valid points).
Anyway, I would love to see starwars in a battlefield 1942 format, it would make for some awsome battles, if only i had the bandwidth to play it. or the money to buy it, lol
We all need some therapy, because somebody came along and said 'liberal' means soft on crime, soft on drugs, soft on Communism, soft on defense, and we're gonna tax you back to the Stone Age because people shouldn't have to go to work if they don't want to. And instead of saying 'Well, excuse me, you right-wing, reactionary, xenophobic, homophobic, anti-eductaion, anti-choice, pro-gun, "Leave it to Beaver" trip back to the fifties,' we cowered in the corner and said 'Please, don't hurt me.' No more. I really don't care who's right, who's wrong. We're both right. We're both wrong. Let's have two parties, huh? What do you say?"

Cool...Shame dogfighting in BF1942 is so bloody hard. Plus it runs a bit crap on my system unless I've scaled graphics right down.
Whatever doesn't kill you can only make you stronger...Unless it bites your legs off, in which case it can only make you shorter.

OT:
quote:
i see your point Cloud, but to play devil's advocate for a moment, no one is forcing you or anyone else to buy or play those games so why do you care, and also i've played many WWII games and have never felt like i was dishonering that generations suffering for even a moment, and judging from sales of these products noone else does either. (this sort of debate has been going on for years with other entertainment items like Ice T's Cop Killer or any of Eminem's stuff and both sides of the argument have valid points).

I ensure you I perfectly see both sides. While I do see World War 2 games as slightly controversial, that's all. I know other people refuse to play Grand theft Auto 3, for example, if, say, a relative or friend of theirs has been hit by a drunk driver.
I do of course not judge people by what games they play. A player of Medal of Honor or Battlefield 1942 of course does not have to think World War 2 was cool. Just that I play Grand theft Auto does not have to mean I want to go speeding or killing people. I don't hold it against you what kind of games you play. Actually, I got Sudden Strike from a friend, played it, and found it cool, but I just don't play it because it's based on World War 2. I play War games, but if they aren't in fictional places or with fictional factions, I simply fail to enjoy them. It's just the way I am (that, and the history classes on German occupation has taken a toll on me). I'm pretty sure that if BF1942 and SS were based on fiction, I'd play them. It's not a principle, it's based on enjoyment, and as I stated, while I can enjoy games based on Modern conflicts, I generally don't buy them.
Only thing I don't get is why games sell better if they're based on World War 2. Maybe it's as simple as games based on real events automatically seem more realistic,
Back to topic: Great mod, great graphics, especially that canyon/river/fjord/whatever shot :) Maybe LEC should use the BF1942 engine when making Galactic Battlegrounds 2?

I don't want to play a game were I bomb Americans as a terrorist, but I'll gladly play as Axis in any game that lets me do so (I do so love the Me 262) because:
1) I am not a soldier for an Axis power and enjoy the fictional protrayal of myself as one in an escapism sense.
2) stabbing three people in a failed hijacking is not fun, nor is it escapist. if i was to board an airliner today, there is a good chance it could be hijacked. however, a Stuka is not going to divebomb my house. something that could happen to me != escapist
3) History is cool
Last christmas, I got Combat Flight Simulator 2. My grandfather had served as a mechanic during WWII and was greatly interested in this game. It gave him a chance to talk about things he normally would talk about and tell storys about his experiences with the different aircraft from the game. You keep your ignoring of history and i'll have a good time simulating flying a plane i'll never see and talking to my grandpa about the time he taxied a P-47 into a ditch.
it is human nature to emulate events, regardless of their nature. This gives us Civil War re-enactors and WWII games.

I was just saying that I thought the terrain was horrible. The ground in the MMORPG I play is a lot better than that, and it takes about one and a half hours to go from one end to the other in a straight line (which isnt possible, because the land has a curve). So I would think its either larger or as large.

That's okay.
Nogova is over 100KM2, which is probably more than 90 minutes walking end to end, although there are mountains and a river in the way, just to bitch some more. :)
