I'm completely new here, so forgive me if this has been covered already or is possible somehow. I've been scouring for information and have come up empty, and this is my last resort.
I've got a 'gladiator' stick and a thrustmaster throttle, and it would be really awesome to use both of them (and all their buttons) in XWA in a way that didn't make me want to force my head through a plate glass window.
I downloaded a bunch of questionable freeware to no real avail; I'm still futzing around with anti-micro and wishing there was an easier way.
better joystick support?

Ok, to my knowledge, right now we do not have support for that outside of software like Vjoy to combine stick and throttle with separate USB connections. It's probably possible to create something in the future though given all the advancements we are seeing.
I am using and X52 pro currently because it combines the throttle and stick into one device by default but someday I'd like to use my X56 rhino.

Your best bet is joining vjoy with joystick gremlin or autohotkey. The second is harder to master i think.
You can map your buttons to the keyboard directly and even assign some to change modes, so you can switch form escort controls to cargo or superiority for example. I have enough assignments in game for my joystick and I'm still using a configuration based on roles. I loose some keys to each role, but the outcome is better imho.
