My computer (lately) has been very screwy.
I was going to FDisk a while ago, but I couldn't figure how to (I found tutorials and what not, and they were very unorganized and confusing).
So if anybody knows how to, please give me instructions.
Another problem is that, I have a lot of important stuff I need to keep on my HD.. and if I reformatted it would all be gone and lost.
------------------
I'll do virtually anything to ensure that the Alliance topples the Empire.

well......... do you have an old hard drive you can throw in there to store the files you need on it?
Personally I always keep a spare hard drive to store anything on hehe (lost to many umm educational files formatting over the years)
Anyways to format you needn't use FDisk at all... Do the following in DOS:
1. path=C:\windows\command
2. format C: NOTE: don't format till you have everything backed up that you want backedup

I don't have any spare hard drives, ..... but, if anyone has one lying around and they don't want to use it, I'll take it !
Ok, back to reformatting.
I'm not a lot of knowledge with reformating, so if I put in format C: does that mean it would erase everything on the C: , thus starting over?
------------------
I'll do virtually anything to ensure that the Alliance topples the Empire.

One time I compressed and uploaded all of my backup data to Datamaster's so that I could reformat. It was funny. (Hey, they said "unlimited space.")
You'll need a bootdisk. Boot up from that, format c: and it's all gone. Actually, if you're using Win9x, you can probably just drop to DOS to do it. You'll have to reinstall Windows, of course, so it's best to be certain you have CD-ROM drivers included on your boot media. Trust me, it never hurts.
You don't have to use fdisk unless you want to reorganize your partitions.

I have a boot-disk, and the proper CD-ROM's for the Windows 98 installation... but, I don't have a way of backing up my entire hard drive.
------------------
I'll do virtually anything to ensure that the Alliance topples the Empire.

Ok, I found a 20.0 GB Hard Drive for $66 dollars.
But, I'm not sure if I could find anything cheaper. So I need to know if this is a good price or not.
It's an EIDE 5400 RPM I believe.
(I found it at pricewatch.com)
------------------
I'll do virtually anything to ensure that the Alliance topples the Empire.

quote:
Originally posted by Admiral Alistair:
well......... do you have an old hard drive you can throw in there to store the files you need on it?

I backed up everything on my other hard drive once and formatted and when I set everything up I had to have the other hard drive redetected so it got formatted as well and I lost everything on it. So I don't know how that works but now that I've got a CD burner I shouldn't have to worry about that.

You should take a peek inside your computer, there should be two spots for hard drives.
One for the master drive, and the other for the slave drive.
Then it's just a matter of copying and pasting the files into the slave drive.
------------------
I'll do virtually anything to ensure that the Alliance topples the Empire.
[This message has been edited by General Taskeen (edited 16 September 2001).]
