Hello all, today I got a cable modem today... boy, I wish I had it on thursday, not that I'm complaining, check this out, I downloaded the IFP with a 56k modem, it took me 3hr and 10 min. Cable modem... 1 min. and 16 sec Damn!, I love it!! Since I really don't have a problem, I thought it would be appropriate to have this topic here rather than the pilot's lounge.
Sincerly, rogue518

That's about my average download speed on cable, too. It usually depends on the server.

Mine..depends on the server, I do have a question though.... I have (2) computers that are network together, when comcast hooked my cable modem up, they used my ethernet card that was hooked up to the hub . my question is, can I take out my existing 56k modem (PCI slot) and replace it with with another ethernet card and have both computers using the cable modem? Just a thought.....
Sincerly, rogue518
[This message has been edited by rogue518 (edited 30 July 2001).]

Well, you only need a hub if you're connecting more than one system to your main computer. I have two NICs in my computer, and I have the second set up for ICS (or NAT when I need it). When someone comes over (or if I need another computer to have network access), I plug it in and it automatically configures. The trick to networking a couple computers without a hub is to use crossover cable between the second NIC and the other computer.

Thanks, Defiant and Mini , for that info.. and yes I do have a hub, sorry, I forgot to mention that in the other post. Also where I work... one of the field tech guys is helping with this also, it seems I may have a problem with WinME, so I'm just waiting to see what he has to say,..if It does'nt work, hopefully it will work when I upgrade to WIN XP, I really don't think I will have a problem though. I kind of figured that I would'nt have a problen if I had (2) nic cards in the same computer, just needed some sound advice to back that theory up, thanks again...
Sincerly, rogue518

[This message has been edited by rogue518 (edited 30 July 2001).]

Ok.. I, forgot that I had (1) PCI slot left.. so it worked out great! Also I am networked again with both additional computers... So I'm staright again, also as far as speed... it actually doubled!! I was getting dowload speeds of 1558, now I'm getting download speeds of 3548...that has been the highest so far, I guest it all depends on the server, anyway. But usally I'm in the 3112 to 3253 area... I have been able to download Demo's of: "Independence War2: Edge Of Chaos" (197 mb dl) and MechWarrior2 (57 mb dl) without a problem......
Sincerly, rogue518

[This message has been edited by rogue518 (edited 04 August 2001).]
