OK, whats the deal? Here I got this spanking new system A7M266 ASUS mobo, Kyro II 64MB card {latest drivers installed}, Atholn 1.2 chip, Win2000 {again all patches and compatiblity files installed} DX 8.1, 512Meg of DDR Ram, and the game is still jerky and choppy!
Cmon! I cant run it above 800X600 without serious gameplay loss.
For anyone who might know... please tell me what are the optimazations for the Kyro II and XWA. Ive tried tweaking within the game, turning off space debris, turning starfield to minimum, turning off MIPmaps, etc. but still seem to be hitting some kind of performance wall.
What is the secret?! I was sure a two and a half year old title would be pre-masticated mush for a contemporary system. What am I doing wrong??
Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide!

John: Troll.
Ron: The Kyro II's overdraw-eliminating architecture probably won't help nearly as much as it does in a shooter. I don't know of any specific optimizations you can try, but I often have choppy gameplay when I have 3D sound enabled.

the game should run fine...you could check that your graphics card and sound card arent sharing an irq...this can make game choppy when a lot of action going on.

Pentium? Shouldn't make much difference! Athlon are better anyhow!
I just remembered. A friend of mine downloaded DirectX 8 and said he had a few glitches with XWA, so maybe you're having the same problem. Did you have 7 on your last system? If you had 8...well ignore me...or maybe 8 on your system causes the glitches...i'm no genious y'know!
------------------
"What's 'app'nin' Dudes?" - Holly
[This message has been edited by JED (edited 05 August 2001).]

TURN OFF 3D-SOUND IN XWA
This also happened to me. The A7M runs an onboard CM-8738 chip, which does hardware 3d sound .. through software.
I'm not kidding. This WORKS.

Well, since July I've upgraded my card to a GeForce3 TI200 (the underclocked gf3) and lost my old password to this forum. (was originally Ron C)
I did disable 3d sound, also did some overclocking of the mobo's FSB and the new vid card and have to say the program is looking much better. Plays great.
Love to create battles now with a couple of SSDs and various SDs and CCs. Wow.
