I've just downloaded 8.1, but I'm a little nervous about installing it. Anyone out there using it? Any problems with it and XWA? Any feedback would be great.
Thanks,
Chris Harben
Atlantic Beach, FL

I've heard SOME people say it minorly dropped their gaming performance, but since Xp comes with DX8.1 I guess I can say it runs fine for me Not very many people have encountered problems in Windows 95/98/ME with DX8.1 so it should be fine for you.

I'm using Directx8.1 with Windows 98 SE and it all runs fine. I can't say that it dropps or increases the game performance but it has some new features i can't remember wich makes it more suitable or something like that. I have a GeForce3 wich is overclocked to the maximum level so i don't think that any DirectX version would be able to increase the game performance. Maybe u will have other results but u have to install it and then u can see whats different or not. but it wont cause a crash on your comp so go ahead and check it out.
cheers
[This message has been edited by John Banks (edited 24 November 2001).]

It works fine for me... it might just be me, but it seems XWA runs a bit faster than normal then it usually does for me.
I have all the XWAU Fighters installed, except for the newly released Muurian Transport.
------------------
I'll do virtually anything to ensure that the Alliance topples the Empire.

I installed it on Friday night and have had no problems so far. Baldur's Gate II expansion runs better than on 8.0a, in fact. Thanks for the advice.
Chris Harben
Atlantic Beach, FL
