Hi!

First, I would like to thank the authors for xwahacker, DirectX 11 wrapper, craft pack and all effort that has been put on this game!

I've got the GOG version of XWA and played it without problems with xwahacker and the backdrops patch. I didn't install the craft pack waiting for an installer that worked with the GOG edition. However, with the new 1.1 XWAU installer the game crashes just before entering hangar on first mission. It does show an enhanced falcon on briefing but after the loading bar, it finally crashes. It even crashes on some simulator missions as well (like the ISD sim mission template) but not on the Rebel vs Empire melee template, for example.

I've tried to reinstall the pack on a fresh install of the game without xwahacker, not tinkering with any option or anything, straight to the hangar, but it crashes. I've even reinstalled the vcredist x86 2013 package.

Since it seems it doesn't happen to everybody, it might be a bug with DirectX 10 cards? I got a Nvidia GTX260 with driver v340.52 on a Win7 home premium 64bit. It runs smooth the vanilla game, with or without xwahacker and backdrops indepent patch. The problem only occurs when I install the XWAUpgrade 1.1 patch.

Thanks in advance.

OK,
It seems that this crash happens when reading the hangar menu strings. So it is not a problem with the graphic card.
Do you use a localized version of the game?

I was having the same issue after installing 1.1

I managed to resolve it by changing my ingame resolution from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200.

It didn't work for me to change the ingame res (not xwahacker applied) to 1600x1200.

No, I'm using the latest official XWA 2.0.0.8 GOG release, which is only available in english, as far as I can see in my GOG library.
However, my OS environment (Win7 locales, etc) is set to spanish.

JeremyaFr wrote:This the same problem that 3D models during briefings cause crash on launch.
It might be the same problem, but there is a difference between the description of both problems:

It never happened to me before installing XWAU 1.1, no matter if briefing showed a 3D model or not. That is with or without xwahacker and the independent backdrops patch. It seems, therefore, something related with something XWAU 1.1 changes. (The problem of that thread u are linking is described as ocuring without XWAU 1.1 installed as well, not my case)

I add some more information which could be important:
- With XWAU 1.1 installed, it occurs the same problem on the ISD template mission of the ingame "simulator" (which has no briefing, therefore no 3D model showed prior the mission loading)
- The only other mission I tested and the only one which I could fly was the Rebel vs Empire template melee in the ingame "simulator". So not all missions in the simulator are affected by the issue.

New info regarding the subject that might give a little more insight on this:

After uninstalling the XWAU 1.1 patch using its uninstaller, this issue remains. The only way to fix it I found is uninstalling the game completely and reinstalling again. Then it's all right until I install XWAU 1.1 again. So the uninstaller might leave some leftovers related with this. This may explain that, if this is really the same issue as reported in the other thread, it is seemingly happening with or without XWAU 1.1 installed (because it is being tested after one installation of the upgrade, no matter if it is uninstalled afterwards)

Hope it helps.

This issue was reported on the GOG forums even before XWAUCP 1.1 was out, sadly I can't find that post right now. So the cause must be a component that was available before XWAUCP 1.1.

I'm doing a clean install of both the original and the GOG version to investigate further.

Sorry but your going to have to think of another excuse Jimi-Jam, the uninstaller removes and restores everything it replaces, there are no "leftovers" I make sure of that :)

Uh, ok. No excuses, merely stating facts and building possible hypotesis. Didn't mean any ofense, sorry. There should be another explanation then.

What happened so far, only facts:

1º-. Playing flawless since the release of the game at GOG. No errors in the vanilla version and with xwahacker and with the standalone backdrops patch
2º-. Release of XWAU 1.1
3º-. Uninstalled backdrops patch, installed XWAU 1.1 default options and reinstalled xwahacker -> Issue reported on this thread
4º-. Uninstalled everything, clean install of XWA. No issues loading the first campaign mission
5º-. Installed XWAU 1.1 default options -> Issue reported on this thread
6º-. Reinstalled vcredistx86 2013 -> Issue reported on this thread
7º-. Uninstalled only XWAA 1.1 -> Issue reported on this thread

Now I've been through 3 cycles from step 4º to step 7º so far and keeps happening again and again.

Don't really know what happens, but these are the facts on my computer.

Edit: 3 cycles of steps 4º 5º and 7º. Didn't reinstall vcredistx86 2013 again
