All current known bugs up to 28th December have been fixed and included in XWAU Mega Patch: Update 1

Please see our Forum post for other questions and any installation issues can be posted in our Help section.

The first thing you should do is run Babu Frik's Configurator from the Launcher menu.
In that you can setup your graphics and VR options to improve things as you wish.
Don't forget to read our Beginners Guide for help too.
https://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3/viewt ... 34&t=13107

Make sure Mip Mapping is turned ON in the Video options, Hardware section.

Be aware that some people report issues with high refresh rates on monitors.
Changing it to 60hz can help fix that.

A few people have been experiencing some issues with joysticks and controllers.
This is because there is a new way of configuring them in XWAU. With so many modern Joysticks etc and and old game it's tricky.
With the Mega Patch release more people are trying our new system so we may find a few small bugs.
This isn't like Squadrons so don't expect XWA to accept all the latest gear in one click but it's better than before.
If you have any issues then read and post in this topic for help.
https://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3/viewt ... 33&t=12446

If you are still using the old CDs for XWA it is getting harder to support that system. We do recommend you upgrade to a digital version such as sold by GoG.com etc. https://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_xwing_alliance
If you find you are missing some sounds you need to copy the WAVE folder from both CDs to the XWA main folder. If asked to replace any files then select not to do that. The sounds will then run from your PC.

Even though the game is old we are pushing it to it's limits in areas. Try not to be too focused on FPS numbers and enjoy the game :)

Please run the game from Alliance.exe. Not Steam or other shortcuts.
This is an example of where I mean
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars X-Wing Alliance\Alliance.exe"

We have posted a small Day one fix for the few critical issues that have been spotted.
You can find it on the Download page.

April 14th: 1 - If you experience crashing when entering Hyperspace, this seems to have been caused by a Hook not included in the XWAU.
In particular the TargetBoxToggle Hook created by Justagai. Which is really a simple tool for assisting in screenshots.

We don't usually recommend the use of extra old Hooks not included in the XWAU as we know they can sometimes cause issues and have not been fully tested.
Even the Multiplayer Hook has been discovered to cause issues with the TFTC work in progress.
So if you have issues and do use extra Hooks or add-ons try removing those first and please let us know what other add-ons you maybe using.
Otherwise it's extremely hard to for us to troubleshoot your issues in our free time.

May 5th 2021: All known issues have been fixed in Update 3.
The updated TargetBoxToggle Hook is now included in the XWAU releases.

Apologies but it seems that the previous issue with the X-wing radar slipped back into Update 3. :(
Not sure what happened but the files didn't get added properly to Update 4.

The issue is that the Left Radar dish is showing the wrong Dot positions of the ships.

Here are the fixed files. If you extract them and add to the Dynamic Cockpit folder it will fix the issue.
Hopefully the next Update this won't happen again.

Flying with the cockpit off (so not showing the 3D interior by using the . key) will cause the player craft to receive much higher damage. This bug is caused by Hook_Weapon_Color.dll. We will look into this however at this time it is unclear when we will have a fix ready for this. For now you can either leave the cockpit on or rename the Hook_Weapon_Color.dll file. (Which will impact the ability to have different colored lasers for crafts) Thanks to @Random Starfighter for figuring this out and reporting it to us.

There are rare cases were the game itself will not launch at all after installing XWAU, Update 4 or TFTC (Seems to vary a bit). No error message appears, the game simply will not launch. This appears to be an issue with Windows 10s DEP (Data Execution Prevention)
The following message can be found in the Windows 10 event viewer:

Code: Select all

Application Error:
Faulting application name: XwingAlliance.exe, version: 2.0.0.2, time stamp: 0x3765a9b7
Faulting module name: XwingAlliance.exe, version: 2.0.0.2, time stamp: 0x3765a9b7

Report Id: 504d08bb-7fd7-4ea6-ab0c-2c72dd1dccdd
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:
If this is the you need to add the XwingAlliance.exe into the DEP exception list. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:
forums.tomshardware.com
Note, I highly recommend to not disable DEP altogether but only to add the executable into the exception list. (How to do that is listed as the last point in the above forum post)

Another, most likely better way, to fix this would be to do this:
go to Windows Security -> App & Browser Control -> Exploit Protection Settings -> Program settings then click "Add program to customize", click "Choose exact file path" and add the path to the XwingAlliance.exe program. Which for me, is D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars X-Wing Alliance\XWingAlliance.exe. Then you override "Data Execution Prevention (DEP)" and set it to "off".

If your game crashes randomly during missions (especially when large crafts were destroyed) make sure that Hardware MIP mapping is NOT set to off.
This setting can be found here:
Video Options --> Single Player Options --> Hardware Only Options:
MIP-Mapping.jpg
If you play Multiplayer this needs to be changed in the MP settings as well.

We aren't aware of any major issues with Update 5.5 so far.
There is two minor issues though that is worth mentioning.

Hangar Camera views:
When you first enter or re-enter a hangar you might find the camera in a funny angle, or obscured.
If you press the same camera button again then it will correct itself. Or choose a different angle.

This is a Hook issue that has been reported, but it's minor and things have broken before so we don't want to do that again :D

We have also fixed a lot of hangar camera views that were affected by the new Ddraw 2.0.
If you find any hangars where the camera is totally blocked by something then please let us know :)

Updating Hooks.ini
Also FYI if you update from the Hooks download after Update 5.5 installation you will break the new Ddraw settings.
This is easily fixed by opening Hooks.ini and changing the line below from 1 to 0.

Code: Select all

[hook_d3d]
IsHookD3DEnabled = 0

Alternatively place this file in your XWA main folder directory to override the setting. Helpful if you forget.

There is a small issue with the Victory Star Destroyer Skins in Update 5.5.
They have the wrong texture numbers on them so won't work.

To fix them go to these folders and follow this guide.
Go to: XWA Folder - Flightmodels\Skins\
Delete the VictoryStarDestroyer folder that is in the Skins directory.

Then download this file and add the included VictoryStarDestroyer folder into Skins directory which will replace it.

Thanks to @Rookie_One1 for finding this issue.

@LPhoenix has created a fix for a bugged mission.
[B6M2] BATTLE 6 - MISSION 2 - LOCATE MERCENARY BASE

In this mission for some reason the IRD fighters flew a long way out and back.
To download the mission and to see what has been changed see this thread.
