Hi Guys.. Firstly I'd like to say.. I really love what you have done with X-wing Alliance. The Upgrades are super fantastic.. I've been following your site for years now.. and Wow.. Totally love it..

So My question is. I've been having a few Hard wear related issues of late. Noting Big. But Still a bit of a pain in the Bum. While Playing about with my Hard Drives and Power problems. I decided to install X-wing Alliance work with out CD patch.

This saves using the CD all the time..

Following these instructions from this web site http://www.ardenneweb.eu/reportages/201 ... resolution
I've got it working.

But with out the Briefing sounds while in mission Brief.. I've copied over all the wave files but still know sound. And am unsure how to get them to play while in the game.

If any one has had any experience in this would you be able to give me some direction as to how to get all sounds to work.

Cheers Guys..

1. XWA is available from GOG, if you don't mind spending a few dollars. Here's a link: http://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_xwing_alliance

However, if you are frugal...

2. Get Daemon Tools and make an ISO of the disk. This will take up a bit more hard disk space, perhaps, but you'll never need to put the disk in again. Here's a quick link to the free version, Daemon Tools Lite: http://www.disk-tools.com/download/daemon

Thanks Thaeris. So I've already got the Xwing alliance disks in iso.. Both Disks. How do I install them once Daemon tool has mounted the iso file?

If XWA is already installed, you should be able to mount one or both disks - I think DT supports up to four virtual drives. It should just be a matter of running the program after that, and the virtual drive should work just like a physical disk in your actual CD drive.

If XWA is not installed, you can either install from the actual disk, of course, or install from the .iso of the disks you made.

In short, just make sure the correct .iso(s) are mounted in the virtual drives you create, and the program should run as it would normally with actual disks. That approach worked well enough with Rebellion before I got the GOG version.
