I‘m running Win10 and was using the cfg files the way they came in the zip.

I‘m going to whip up a clean Install on the weekend and try again.

This mod killed my computer!

… Heh, sorry, kidding. My GPU went up and died while I was testing the new version, but I’m 99% sure the timing was a coincidence. The little I’ve seen before the big crash looked great, though.

Speaking of crashes:
I‘ve had some ctd‘s as well, they occurr when hitting an OPT with lasers. However, this only occurs with OPTs that have HD textures. I‘m posting it in here because, as far as I recall, the Shader mod is the only thing I changed since the last time without bugs ....
The issue is occurred with the new VSD as well as DTM‘s Imp. Research center.

I remember the same crash from years ago, long before the HD era. Back then I think it was related to too many faces within a mesh. However, like I said, it did work before.

Anti-Aliasing is activated through the nVidia Control Panel (in case you're using that card). What about keiranhalcyon7's question? What's your HUD scale?

Checked, AA is active in global settings. I'm running the game at 2560x1080 at 1.49 hud scale. Made sure not to go any bigger.

One more thing, not sure how did it but I ran the game once today and the ddraw wouldn't load so the game would use the vanilla shader and the HUD was fine.

Can you try disabling AA? My ddraw version is not compatible with that yet

To confirm whether the new DDraw dll causes the crash, you can test that:
- install the latest hooks (using XwaHooksSetup)
- install the regular version of the DDraw.dll (https://github.com/JeremyAnsel/xwa_ddra ... ses/latest)

Tested the regular 1.3.8 DLL, installed the new hooks just the other day.
- The HUD artefacts no longer show.
- The crash still occurrs, confirmed on several HD models (VSD WIP, Imperial Research Center, Space Colony 1, Rebel Platform). It does not occurr on non-HD ships, tested on XWAUP ISD and Container Hangar.

Alright, so it looks like we have two different problems here: one is the crash, which seems to happen with HD models even on Jeremy's golden standard 1.3.8; and the other is the transparency issue which only happens on my version.

What happens if you try the HD models with the previous golden standard? That is, Jeremy's ddraw 1.3.7?

Also: can you give me a few more hints on how to repro the HUD issue? Does it happen all the time?

Ok, on a whim I thought I would look at old event logs and found some GP Faults of my own.

Code: Select all

Faulting module name: XwingAlliance.exe, version: 2.0.0.2, time stamp: 0x3765a9b7
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0019d823

repeat,

repeat...
however, what fixed it for me (on a fresh install as of last week) was using blue-max's ddraw.

Before this I had issues with hook_time and disabling that worked.

@General_Trageton
Does the game crash if you disable the hit effects in the game video menu?

@Trevor
The crash at offset 19d823 means that a memcpy operation has failed.

GT, also I don't know if this is related, but there is a hook that allows you to set the vertices count up to 65k in a .cfg file in main XWA directory you can edit with notepad. Perhaps double that number without a comma and save. I think it's the missions object hook, I don't recall at the moment. This might help with high def models going forward.

@Bman
It's the opt limit hook.
The original vertices count limit is 512 per mesh.
By default, the dll will use a value of 65536.
You can modify this value in hook_opt_limit.cfg (Size = value).

Huh that did the trick. With hit effects deactivated, the crash doesn't occurr.

Hm hard to say, it worked fine on previous versions of your VR mod, should've been around Jan 5/6. Since then I didn't run the game until just recently when I added the new version of the VR mod and updated all the hooks. From then on it stayed cconsistently. One more thing, like I wrote earlier, the issue doesn't only impact the HUD but all 2D elements like lasers, sprites, particles and engine glows. It looks like the bloom effect isn't loaded either.

So the crash is related to hit effects.

Does it crash if you re-enable the hit effects and set the texture resolution to Med or High (not Low) ?

The Texture res was set to high anyway. Re-enabling hit efects makes the crash return.

Do you think you could share the list of hooks you're using?

Here you go. I think most of them were installed with DSUCP and some OPT installers, only installed a number of them manually such as the hangar hook.

You really need to update the Hooks from Jeremy's XWA Hooks Setup, these are the most upto date, (Don't rely on the installers being upto date they won't be now) then install Blue Max's VRMod

But don't install Jeremy's New DDraw.dll v1.3.8 as then the VR Mod won't work, unless you don't want to use the VR Mod, you will have to wait for Blue Max to add Jeremy's New code to his version of the DDraw.dll

I actually did use xwa hook setup to update them ....

Edit: Ran XWA Hook Setup again and the result is the same.

I'll take some time tomorrow and see that I get a clean install set up.

Thanks GT, unrelated; but you probably should remove Hook_XWACockpitLook.dll since it will conflict with Hook_CockpitLook.dll.

hook_d3d would also conflict with the VR mod because I haven't yet updated the code, as Darksaber pointed out; but I don't see it in there...

OK, next clue: make and model of your video card and how much RAM does it have?
