Hello,

I just installed XWAUCP 1.6 and launched X-Wing Alliance. When I click Play X-Wing Alliance button, nothing happens.

I uninstalled the working XWAUCP 1.3 before to install successfully 1.6.

Any idea :hilfe: ?

Thank you.

My config :
Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.83 GHz
RAM 3 GB
Monitor 4:3 1600x1200
Windows XP Pro SP3
Directx 9.0c
X-Wing Alliance 2.02 (french CD disk version)

Have you tried running xwingalliance.exe directly?

I try to execute xwingalliance.exe and I get a message that it cannot start because dxgi.dll is not found.

Dxgi.dll - dll file called "DirectX Graphics Infrastructure" is a part of Microsoft® Windows® Operating System program developed by Microsoft Corporation.

At first I thought if was something that could be resolved by re-installing DirectX, but looking at the DirectX installer to see what files are within and Dxgi.dll wasn't there, so it's pointless trying that.

I would say you might have to reinstall Windows XP or upgrade your Operating System

If you search for what is dxgi dll in windows xp you come across various fixes, personally I wouldn't trust them, and just reinstall XP or upgrade your OS

Up to you, but it has nothing to do with installing XWAUCPv1.6

Hope that helps

The packs include a custom wrapper for ddraw.dll that uses DirectX 11.
I'm sorry but DirectX 11 is not compatible with Windows XP.

I can confirm this is the problem.

The craft packs are not compatible with XP, Windows 7 would be your next step to upgrade too.

Thank you all for this help. You gave me hints on what to do with my old XP... It was the last Windows computer I kept to play this wonderful game. I have 5 computers under Ubuntu and 3 home servers using a modified Debian distro. In the past (Ubuntu 12?) I successfully installed XWA with Wine. The only main drawback was a very slow game when shooting at moving targets with lasers.
Before to choose Windows 7 + DirectX11, I prefer to test Ubuntu 18 + Wine + DirectX11+XWA widescreen support and cross my fingers it will work fine...

Thanks.

Thank you, I am following this guide.
A last thing I cannot remember : during XWAUCP installation, it checks my original XWA disks; will it check this every time I want to play the game too?

No, Once installed you'll no longer need the discs, as the installer installs a NO CD patch, so everything runs from the HDD, the discs are needed just to prove you own the game plus copies all the Wave folders and Movies from Disc the HDD.
