A few weeks ago, I was looking for help finding the Ashgard family campaign, which your community pointed me in the right direction. I got everything downloaded, and was able to play the first mission, but the game keeps crashing to desktop when I try to load the second mission. I edited a pilot file to unlock all the missions, and the only mission I've found that I can play is that first one. I have tried running the game with DSUCP 2.6 and XWAUcP 1.6. I've updated the hooks, though I'm not sure that did more harm than good. The game loads, and all of the original campaign missions load fine under either craft pack.

I'm using windows 10, with a NVidia GTX 960 video card, using the Steam version of X Wing Alliance, and can provide any other system info if needed. I've tried running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP 2 and 3), and Windows 7. Windows 98 compatibility mode prevented the game from starting.

Any help or insight on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and help.

EDIT: Each time I tried a new approach, I started from a clean install from Steam.

I'm not surprised it doesn't work it's from 2003/2006/2007??, most of the opt's the xmods replace have been updated since then

Plus if you look at the Spacecraft0.lst file there are a list of opts that are not even installed and the xmod files do not install all of these opts

Code: Select all

FlightModels\Kwing.opt
FlightModels\Naboo.opt
FlightModels\V-38.opt
FlightModels\TieShadow.opt
FlightModels\cloudcar.opt
FlightModels\Islands.opt
FlightModels\Planets1.opt

FlightModels\IMPRESEARCHCENTER.OPT
FlightModels\TIEINVADER.OPT
FlightModels\constructionyard.OPT
FlightModels\Devastator.opt
FlightModels\SOVEREIGN.OPT
FlightModels\T42.opt
The chances are that some of the missions require some of the opts that are missing, therefore the mission crashes, it'll be impossible to play the campaign without all the missing opts. Though I can't find anything in the readme files, the campaign probably required one of the earlier DSUCP installers to be installed, but there are names of opts I don't recognise and have never as far as I can remember been included in a earlier versions of the DSUCP installers. Finding those missing opts will be near to impossible as most of the websites these craft came from no longer exist.

The Campaign needs to be totally revamped and updated.

Sorry but this is as much as I can help, I haven't looked at this in years, and to be honest never played it.

I don't think the campaign will be compatible with DSCUP or XWAU. As DS said, there's just too many conflicts.

I have added a warning notice to my download mirror, pointing out the shipset is incompatible with DSUCP.

It's incompatible with anything, full stop.

Without sorting through the list above with the missing Opts, finding and installing them, this Campaign is obsolete now, it might be that only a few of the missing opts are used, it'll be hard to track down which opt's are actually needed as the game will crash each time if just one is missing from the mission, sorting through the missions will be a task and a half, in might help to install the included txt file, but abolisher should have also included the Specdesc.txt file which went along with this campaign.

I just skipped through the various files. He did include a whole lot of OPTs but many have by now been replaced by updated ones. And yeah, no specdesk file.

OK, I've taken it down for the time being.
