The XWA Upgrade is a massive mod made from fans for fans. We started something like 20 years ago planning to only upgrade the ship models to add some much needed details into them. Over the many years we have discovered many things that we can do to upgrade not only the ship models however but the actual game engine as well. These days there is barely any part of the game untouched. There are higher texture resoutions, more ships with more options to choose from. More flightgroup colors, VR support, fully dynamic and interactive cockpits and so much more.
There is so much we are still learning about the engine and we are trying to push it as far as we can. Sure, we might never be done, we might never get to that last model to be changed, but boy are we having a lot of fun on the way.

We sure hope you will join us on this ride and rediscover this old but sill really great game.

Comment Allow me to introduce myself, I’m a 33 year old Swedish manchild with a (probably) unhealthy fixation with fictional spacecraft. I became a lifelong star wars fan at 8yo playing Rebel assault for the first time, followed by every star wars game after that. In 2002 I stumbled onto the XWAUP site while procrastinating on the schools computers, I was very impressed and followed every release closely. In 2011 I decided to learn modeling and opting myself and with some help from the community I managed to make my first OPT which was the Ssi-ruuvi droid fighter... just a pyramid with guns, after that I was hooked. I consider myself more of a 3D artist rather than someone with a lot of technical understanding of the game, my programming skills are quite limited. I work mainly in blender for 3d modeling and UV mapping and GIMP for making textures. Sadly I don’t have a lot of time to spend on hobbies nowadays, being a dad I do most work after the kids go to bed so don’t expect amazing productivity, I try to go for quality over quantity. Professionally, I am a nurse with a specialist degree in pre-hospital emergency care, driving an ambulance for 5 years, prior to that I was a combat-medic in the Army's arctic ranger(Jägare) bataljon and later as a medevac team leader. I have lately reignited my interest in plastic modeling, building the Bandai star wars kits with my sons which is where I got the inspiration of making my own OPTs of the X & Y-wings. I’m very impressed with the longevity of this project and the productivity especially the past few years and I’m very happy to be a part of it.
