[Bug] Game crashes during the mission loading screen

Just like the title says, after installing the pack along with everything labeled "NEW" in the downloads section, the game refuses to start any story missions. Skirmish missions seem to work alright oddly enough, but I can only progress with the story missions if I uninstall the pack entirely. This is a new issue as well, since I was able to do the first handful of missions with the pack installed. The game lets me get through the briefing and into the loading screen, but after about 15-20 seconds it crashes to desktop with no error popup or anything of the sort. I've tried reinstalling the pack and the game itself to no avail. If someone could help me figure this out I'd be very appreciative.

Are you able to post a crash log from the event viewer please.
It will be under the application section I believe.
If unsure try a quick Google search how to find it. Thanks

Hello,
The crash at offset 0x000849c7 means that the game failed to load an OPT file.

Does this occur as soon as you install the XWAUCP on a fresh install? And did you try it on multiple campaign missions or does it only happen on the one you are currently on? (If so, which one is that)

Yep, brand new install. And yes I did, when I first had the issue on mission 10 I went ahead and did the mission without XWAUCP on, and then after I reinstalled it mission 11 had the same issue. I haven't gone to look at previously completed missions, but skirmish didn't have this problem at all.

Could you try if it happens on a mission you successfully completed before?

I'm also having the CTD issue during mission load. I'm brand new to XWAUP, and just installed today. Everything worked fine until I copied over the newest hooks using XWA hooks. Here's my event log entry:

It helps to know what people have installed and which order. Especially with many options available.
There have been a few changes that can help things. For example try this only and then things can be worked from there.
Do a fresh install of XWA. Install the XWAUCP only. Make a backup copy of the folder to go back to later if needed.
Then install ONLY the Container Pack v4.1 as it's a very simple pack.
https://www.xwaupgrade.com/download/mod ... k_v4.1.exe
DO NOT download any Hooks as it will not be necessary after this install. Do not install any DDraw files either.
Test the game and see if it works. If it does then replace the backup copy folder with this one.
Then slowly move through the NEW listed downloads ONLY. Nothing else.
Maybe make a small list so we can see which order it was done in.
Install the Dynamic Cockpits LAST.
Sorry for the problems everyone is having but with so many varied PC's it can happen.
The team is working on solutions to make things simpler in the future.

Unfortunately I still seem to be having issues after following these steps. The same crash is still occurring after another clean install of both XWA and the XWAUCP, with no other installs added on. I don't know why I'm having this issue at this point, but for now it looks like I can only play the game in its original form.Ace Antilles wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 1:55 pmIt helps to know what people have installed and which order. Did you do a fresh install and then install ONLY the Container Pack as I mentioned?
If you install one pack like that then it adds the useful stuff to the game.
Also did you select GoG install when running the XWAUCP

Yes to both, followed your instructions to the letter and picked GoG when picking the game version.Ace Antilles wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 8:57 pmDid you do a fresh install and then install ONLY the Container Pack as I mentioned?

Hello,
In which mission the game crashes?
Does it work in skirmish?

Sounds like you're having a very similar problem to mine. I'm also getting a 0x000849c7 error when it crashes.
However, installed the container mod changes it to a KERNELBASE.dll error (0x00114402). Patching the .exe doesn't change it either.
Could it be hardware related? I'm using an RTX 2070 GPU, but my old computer that ran the mod fine had a GTX 970.

I'm totally new, having the same crashing issue. I installed a fresh gog, and the game works fine, but when I install only the main XWAUCP only, then it crashes before launching a mission, during the briefing. I can't get to any missin, singleplayer, campaign, multiplayer.
I picked GOG during install. What resolution should I be selecting? NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 7th gen i7

I have it working now. Exact steps
uninstall everything, clean install of gog xwa in a new folder, c:\xwa
install main xwau pack
gog, 1920x1080 options during install
install container pack (which I didn't do before. without the container pack it wouldnt work)

Glad you have it working.
Basically a lot has changed in the year since the XWAUCP. By installing a new pack like the Containers it adds the newer Ddraw and hook fixes.
I suggest making a backup of your working game but you can now add the ships marked NEW and other packs.
Have fun!

Still stuck. I've tried everything anyone's said in here, I cannot get it to work for some reason or another.Ace Antilles wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 6:56 pmJetdon are you still having issues or have you fixed them now?

You're going to have to recap where you at now are to avoid confusion.
Do a fresh install of the game. - Does the game work ok in "Vanilla" mode?
Are you using the default game location or somewhere else?
Install XWAUCP only, Nothing else. Write down which options you chose in the installer. Pick Red Y-wing for less confusion - Does the game start and can you play Mission 1?
Then install only ONE "new" pack, using the Container one as an example. - Can you play Mission 1 ok and can you play a Skirmish mode ok?
If you get a new crash please supply the latest crash log.
If after that you get that far then selected things can be gradually added after that.
Sorry you are having the issue but sometimes it's selected things on a individual PC. Sometimes things you did without realising, some settings etc etc. If it's taken one step at a time then hopefully someone here can help work it out
