Just to point everyone's attention to the Editing Forum.
At the moment BiosBoy is very close to releasing a beta version of his Opt Viewer. It has some nice features, especially for opt builders. One of the best is that it can open ANY opt. That includes the Slave 1, SSD and even DS's opts!! Image
Look for more information on his website as well as pics of his long developed Stardock Opt. Bios has sent off the program to his initial testers and is awaiting full testing reports from them. So he can see if it's ready for release.
He is currently fixing other small bugs and is implementing more improvements. Hopefully the first version will be released quite soon to stay tuned to this Forum for updates. Image
Current Features:
Views ALL opts! Yet to find one it doesn't. Including Slave 1, SSD and even XWAU opts! Something no other program can do. Image
Displays opts using DirectX graphics.
Can show Wireframe or textured view.
Can view all LOD models in the opt.
Has fast zooming and rotation for large opts.
Shows as much Opt information as you will ever want! Total of: Meshes, LOD, Faces, Hardpoints, Engine Glows, Vertices, Vertex Normals, Textures, Texture Co-ord amd Palettes. And that's just the 1st box! Image
Views all textures and palettes seperate. Can also view trans textures.
Saves textures or Mipmaps.
Can view the information on every mesh:
Including Hardpoints, Engine glows and their XYZ positions.
Plus lot's more stuff to be added!
Here's a pic of the Z-95 cockpit in the Viewer to show it does open previously difficult opts. Almost all my attension has been on making my Opt Viewer program work with X-Wing Alliance opts and I have done a LOT of research into them.
While I was doing this I have tried to make my internal code flexible because I knew I would be going back at some time and adding in Xvt and Bop support to my viewer.
Well I started looking at Xvt and Bop opts yesterday after a comment I received from a beta tester and apart from a mistake I found in the structure of 2 Bop opts I have only had to change my code when it came to handling texture palettes! And that was fixed by adding in 1 line of code.
So to cut a long bit of waffle short it looks like the final release of my Opt Viewer will come with Xvt and Bop support when I ship it.
But Xvt and Bop opts won't have been researched to the level I did for the X-Wing Alliance ones so, there may be an occasional bug in my code but I can't see why.
So many projects on the go.
Creator of Opt Viewer, V-38 Assault Fighter and Alliance Escort Carrier.
Currently working on OptED an all new advanced Opt program.

All you had to do to add BoP support is add 1 line of code!? I was under the impression that it was a little more tricky than that Image. I imagine you already found out about the 4096 bytes of "CD" values, but don't forget also that the vertex, texture vertex, and vertex normal lists are located within the mesh data header instead of the main mesh header like in the XWA format. Oh well, I guess your code is a little more flexible than mine Image.

Yeah 4096 x Hex CD which is 255 decimal, I guess its something to do with a palette or bitmap data but becuase it doesn't seem to change its not too tricky to handle. I wonder if it is some kind of transparency?
These are Xwa opts that have their vertex, texture coordinates and vertex normal data in a mesh data header like Xvt/Bop.
DSBIGTUBEEXIT.OPT, PILOTSEATEDCIVILIAN.OPT, PILOTSEATEDREB.OPT.
Becuase of those my code could already handle the data in that position.
Mini Canari, good point I will fix that.
