[B3M6]Battle 3 - Mission 6: Rendezvous with Defector

Here we can have in-depth discussions about which missions need to be adjusted because they are broken either by original design or by XWA models.

Whatever I do, the ISD kills the Liberty.

I can`t do anything about it. I jumps way to late into hyperspace, because it travels for ages around the map, until it reaches the jumppoint.

No idea why that is, I played that one recently and finished it easily. Be aware that you should help out with the Interdictor on that mission. The Liberty will reload your torpedos, so use that for sure.

Struggled several times on this too, tried torpedoing and/or shooting the INT and the Liberty would still get blown to pieces... I assumed by the lasers from the ISD. So then tried blowing up the ISD so it couldn't shoot the Liberty or launch fighters, but that takes a long time.

In the end I tried doing what they basically tell you to do, and keep torpedoing the INT and reloading and repeat until its dead. Then (because every enemy fighter was dead by that point) I noticed the ISD was still launching T/Bs, and with the Redemption gone, they torpedo the Liberty. This gets hairy because the ISD is so close to the Liberty that they get pretty much instant torpedo lock and fire the second they're out of the hangar, so that's what was killing it, not the lasers from the ISD itself. So had to do some fancy flying straight into the barrages of torpedoes and shoot them down mid flight, probably got 70% of them, in any case was enough to make the Liberty survive and finally passed it.

I have a crash report on this same mission. I also have the same issues as above so I just go for the ISD II and knock out it’s shields, help whittle down it’s hull, then all clear.

But the crash happens after it’s destroyed. Within a minute or so after destruction the game crashes on me. I had this problem in a previous mission as well but changing resolutions in game and restore default graphics settings fixed it. Did the same thing on this mission but it’s not fixing it. I’m running on windows 10 with the games default graphics setting. Please help?

Can you post a crash report? (See hottogeek.com on how to do this)

I managed to fix it. I tried a few ddraw files that didn't sit well. After a series of fails thats too long to explain I ended up wiping the whole install, reinstalling, installing the 2020 megapatch, then the newest 1.1 update. Loaded my pilot backup save and was able to finish it. I admit I turned on invulnerable because i was tired of getting swarmed. But I was able to complete.

Hello,
Does it crash if you disable the specials effects with Babu Frik's configurator? It will install the golden version of DDraw.

I'm getting the same issue as others as far as the Liberty getting destroyed. It seems to meander around without ever attempting to go into hyperspace after the INT is destroyed. Would someone who had to mission working normally be able to post their mission file? I was able to fix an issue with another mission (B1M6) by swapping my file with someone who had no issues with the mission.

Hello,
You can check that Hardware Mip-Mapping is enabled in the game menu options.

Hi there,

I'm also having a bad time trying to make it a success. I don't know what happens but as soon as I destroy the ISD shield generators and I reload my torpedoes, I go out of the hangar and my ship gets destroyed stating that I've destroyed an allied craft. This has happened already 5 times in a row. The last was the funniest because it looked like the ISD exploded but didn't (maybe it was the Interdictor what was destroyed but I didn't have time to check it out as I died at the same time).

If I attack the Interdictor and after that I attacj the ISD I get the Victory destroyed before it can outrun the ISD.

Any suggestions?

You shouldn't got for the ISD at all, the INT is your primary goal once you've taken care of the bombers.
No idea why a craft should be destroyed once you reload your torpedoes. But again, do not go for the ISD but as soon as you killed the bombers dump all your torpedoes at the INT and quickly reload.

Thanks for the tip, in the end I was able to finally succeed.

Same problem as others have previously stated: the Liberty is overpowered by the ISD II. I've tried ignoring the ISD II and I've tried engaging it directly. Ultimately the two ships slug it out at close range and the Liberty is overpowered well before the Redemption is ready to escape.

It's possible that if the Interdictor is taken out quickly and then the STD's shield generators are targeted that I might complete the mission, but that is surely well beyond the original intention of the mission. I'm going to use a mission editor to double the shields on the Liberty.

The Liberty moves about 50% speed.
Do people think it would be better if it had 200% shields or move a little faster?

200% shields gets the Liberty out of there comfortably without needing to take down the Star Destroyer, so that did the job.

I did a few changes to this mission to make it bearable on hard difficulty as it was a pain to even finish it. This should be definitely looked at before integrating into XWAU!

1B3M6B.TIE

Changes:
All difficulties:
- In Region 3 ( Imperial Outpost ), I made it so all of T/F Beta are not arriving at the same time, but only to replace the losses of T/F Alpha. This way the max number of T/Fs on the field is 12.
Only hard difficulty:
- Added A-W Gold with 2 crafts to your initial force. They help in Region 3.
- Changed the warhead of both A-W Gold groups from torpedo to missiles
- Added one more wave of Y-W Gold
- Added 2 more to X-W Red for the end battle

Once the interdictor is dead, the Liberty tends to just sit there getting pounded by the ISDII until the Redemption makes the jump, and only then steps on the gas when it's too late. Who's in charge of this outfit, Admiral Holdo?

I'd call it a grey area as for whether it's "broken", but I found it unsatisfactory enough to just skip the mission and edit in the score I got.
